Trust the Gut or the Brain…

Posted on June 30, 2010 · Leave a Comment

Have you ever been in a situation where you don’t know whether to listen to your brain or your gut? Have you ever regretted a decision you made because it was based off of the facts? A recent article in O, The Oprah Magazine delves into the human psyche and gives us some tips on when it is good to use the gut for decision making and when we should use the brain.

By SimonDoggett

The doctors that consulted in the magazine agree that we should use our gut feelings as a decision making tool when:

You are doing something that you are experienced in. Our gut feelings or “intuition” is based off of our learned experiences, so it is better to give into these feelings when we are put into those types of situations.

Considering getting a second opinion. Listening to what your body is telling you can sometimes be better than listening to what the doctor has to say.

Shopping for a home. When shopping for big ticket items it is better to incorporate how you feel about the decision internally rather than solely base the decision off of numbers.

They decided that you should use your head when:

Sniffing out a lie. You can’t judge a book by its cover, so if you sense someone is lying about something you have to back it up with the facts.

Hiring someone for a job. Don’t solely base your next hire off of how you feel about them. The feeling needs to be backed up with the experience.

No matter the situation you will know what to do, just trust the ultimate decision maker…your heart.

This website does everything for you, except cook the food. There have been so many instances when I am at home, don’t know what to cook, but want to use whatever is in the house. The website does all the hard work for you! All you have to do is click on the ingredients that you want to use that are in your house and then generate a recipe by pressing the Find Recipe button. It is a great way to clean out the pantry and save money. This website allows you and your family to become more resourceful with what you have in the house. Instead of spending 2 hours at the local grocery store on a weeknight, try this website and I am sure you will never turn back.

It will never be a hassle to cook dinner again! And you never have to leave the apartment again.

Now a days social networking websites are how people stay in touch with their friends. They are becoming very popular all around the world. Since people use the social networking websites to connect with long lost friends, relatives, and co-workers they tend to put too much information on the sites. There are some things that should be left to the imagination if you don’t want to have problems with identity theft and other very serious problems.

First thing to look at is your birth date. Feel free to include the day you were born, but make sure to steer clear of including the year and place. When going on vacation be broad about when you are going in case someone is out there casing your page. Never give your real address on there because you never know who could be watching. Make sure to not give away any context clues about what you password could be because hackers look for that on your page. Lastly be careful to brag about risky behavior on the website because insurance companies are starting to use these websites as resources to investigate their clients.

Some of these tips may seem rudimentary but you will be surprised just how many people give this information away daily on social media websites. So if you already have an account on asocial media website make sure to edit it so no one can get your information.

Moving Back

Posted on June 23, 2010 · Leave a Comment

This economic situation that we are in is making it very difficult for new graduates to find a job and move away from home. A lot of graduates are resorting to having to move back home with their parents. This isn’t the most ideal solution for both parties, but it doesn’t have to be all bad. Parents and kids alike just have to sit down and set some ground rules before the lines get blurred.

By stevendepolo

First of all parents need to talk with their child and decide on a deadline for when their child needs to secure a job. It is hard out there, but nothing comes easy to those who don’t put forth the effort. Secondly parents need to decide what amount their kids need to contribute to the household expenses. It might be hard at first but they will get used to it. Next remember not to be too overbearing and don’t over-parent. They have moved back as adults so let them act like it. Make sure you don’t go behind them to pick up the pieces. Then you need to make sure to set some ground rules for the house. Maybe nothing like a curfew but other things that might come. Just remember to be open-minded if they want to negotiate along the way. And finally make sure to show respect to one another.

No matter how you look at it the situation of a child moving back home is both a little out of the ordinary and a blessing in disguise.

fireworks-park at hurstbourneI can’t believe that June is almost over. Boy does time fly! But that means we are getting even closer to Independence Day or the 4th of July as some like to call it! If you are trying to rack your brain for ideas on what to do, worry no more because we are here to help. Louisville is filled with things to do for this patriotic event.

By Beverly & Pack

Now you all must be aware of the fact that it is not legal to purchase or sell fireworks, which means you have to get out of the house to enjoy the fireworks show. There is the Waterfront Independence Festival, the Cresent Hill Old-Fashioned Fourth of July, 4th of July Bullitt Blast, and many more.

It is never too early to plan!

Seneca Park is wide open and ready for anything! The beautiful park is filled with exquisite scenery and over 500 acres of wide open space.

The park can cater to all that willing to try it out. It is an Olmsted-design and attracts about 500,000 visitors per year. One of the main attractions is the very hilly 18-hole golf course. But if golf is not your game feel free to take a run or walk on one of the many trails that the park offers. The park also has facilities that are dedicated to basketball, soccer, field hockey, volleyball and baseball. Also feel free to try out the horse trails that have been created for all of you horse lovers out there!

Hopefully the weather will permit this weekend so we can all have a great weekend and try out the park!
